Diapering is an important part of meeting the physical needs of babies and toddlers while they are in our care. Every child should have at least one diaper check during each ministry hour they are with us. This shows that we care and parents appreciate having their child go home in a clean, dry diaper.
When changing diapers, the following procedures are to be followed in order to prevent the spread of infectious diseases:
• Paper liners and gloves are available at all diapering stations. A clean paper liner is to be
placed on the changing pad to provide a barrier between the infant and the pad.
• A clean pair of gloves must be worn for each diaper change.
• Use the diaper wipes provided by the church. Do not use wipes from a child’s diaper bag
unless specially requested by the parent.
• Wash your hands.
• Mark the time the child was changed on his/her information card.
Tiny Town & Uptown Cleaning Policy
Cleaning solution and cloths are available in each Nursery cabinet above the sink areas.
• Any toys that have been mouthed or spit up on during ministry should be placed in the
sink until they can be disinfected.
AFTER EACH MINISTRY HOUR, THE FOLLOWING EQUIPMENT MUST BE DISINEFECTED:
• Large equipment
• Changing Stations
• Toys
• Swing Trays
CRUNCH & MUNCH -- K4C’s Biting Policy
When a child bites we will follow this procedure:
1. If the bite does not draw blood and is not on the face:
Babies:
- The biter is immediately placed in a crib.
- Wash off the bite and comfort the bitten child.
- If the child has just been soft-mouthed, there is no need to call the parents
unless the child cannot be calmed down.
Toddlers:
- The biter is immediately directed to a chiar, away from the other children.
- He/She is then lovingly reminded that biting is not appropriate behavior.
- Wash off the bite and comfort bitten child.
When the parents come to pick up their children, both will be told of the incident. If the bite is severe, both parents will be called immediately.
2. If the bite draws blood, leaves a mark, is on the face, or occurs a second time
(regardless if the same day or not):
• Give first aid and comfort to the bitten child, while another volunteer isolates the bitter.
• Call both parents out of service immediately.
• If they are not already aware of the biting policy, explain it and give them a written copy.
• Parents of the biter are expected to discipline the child for biting.
3. If the child bites more than once, we will work with the parents in this manner:
• Discuss the problem with the Family Minister to discover why the child is biting.
• The parent is to be in the class for 2 or 3 lessons to determine what may be inciting the behavior.
• Should an attempt at biting be made, the parent will be expected to discipline their child
immediately.
4. If the biting continues:
• We will ask that the child be withheld from the class for a period of time; this duration of time
will be determined by the Family Minister after conferring with the parents.
• When the child is allowed to return to class, the parent will be asked to stay with the child in
the class for a few sessions, to ensure that the biting will not begin again.
The correction policy of K4C is to administer a loving but firm reminder of inappropriate behavior. |
